Sankofa Vision is based in the City of Shreveport, Louisiana. Our immediate service area is Ingleside (Linwood-Caddo Heights area), a working class neighborhood and commercial zone where residents are majority African American. Our programs connect residents, volunteers and strategic partners to develop strong social networks and solutions to the challenges faced by low-income families.
Sankofa Vision’s central work is Sankofa Gardens, an organic community garden and learning campus that is the site of creative and educational programming designed to unify community, strengthen family bonds, and enhance life skills for prosperity among residents. Sankofa Vision attracts and welcomes people of many backgrounds who wish to create a better world.
From simple beginnings, Sankofa Gardens was inspired by the community outreach efforts of a faithful few residents, artists and merchants. The project began as a tiny container garden and, years later, has blossomed into a local community garden of national importance. Sankofa Gardens: Creative Community & Fresh Food Oasis has been celebrated by the office of First Lady Michelle Obama, Green For All, Yes! Magazine and media outlets in Northwest Louisiana and beyond.
